As a business owner, you may have noticed a decline in engagement over the last couple of years.

This is because Facebook is continuously updating the way their algorithms work – and some of their most recent updates are geared towards emphasising content from family and friends, leaving brand and business pages to dwindle in the shadows of your newsfeeds.

According to Hootsuite, there are three major deciding factors in how high your posts will rank in user’s feeds.


So what are they?

1. Who a user typically interacts with.
The type of media used in the post (e.g. video, link, image).
How popular the post is (number of comments and reactions).


With these factors in mind, businesses have to reevaluate the way they make posts and interact with followers. 


How To Beat Facebook’s Algorithm, Using:


You’ll want to be creating content that invites users to interact. 

Start conversations and get people discussing amongst one another in the comment section. 

Think about an emotion you want to provoke from readers (e.g. happiness, sadness, laughter) and curate your post around that. Take a look at your page insights and try to make these posts at peak engagement times. 



Posting video content can be a hit or a miss. If you want to post a video, keep in mind that Facebook values videos with a duration longer than three minutes. 

Alternatively, hosting a live stream via Facebook’s live video feature reportedly ‘averages six times more engagement’ than regular videos.  


Facebook Groups 

Utilise Facebook groups! There’s a reason we started up our Business Circle FB group.

If you’re a member of multiple Facebook groups, you will have noticed that they can clog up your feeds quite quickly. This is because Facebook’s algorithm prioritises content from groups. 

Many business owners are jumping on this opportunity and have created groups focused around their brand to build relationships with existing customers and generate new leads. 


These strategies should keep you busy for a while, at least up until Facebook pulls the rug out from under us and suddenly changes up their algorithm again.
