<p>Each week you&#8217;ll find a quick tip here to help evolve you, your business, copywriting or marketing skills.</p>
<p><span style="color: #ff6600;"><strong>May 10th, How to Create New Business Idea&#8217;s In 90-Seconds Flat. </strong></span></p>
<p>With so much focus on social media getting around (and rightly so), today I thought I&#8217;d strip it idea creation and marketing back to basics a little.</p>
<p>So below is a quick and easy strategy that I use to generate new idea&#8217;s for my businesses.</p>
<p>Okay here we go</p>
<p><strong>Step 1.</strong> Grab a sheet of blank paper</p>
<p><strong>Step 2</strong>. Set a timer for 90-seconds then write down every idea that comes into your head. <strong>Don&#8217;t think about the idea&#8217;s, just write as many as you can down in 90-seconds.</strong></p>
<p><strong>Step 3.</strong> Once your 90-seconds is up, go through your list and select the two or three you think have potential and that you can action.</p>
<p><strong>Step 4.</strong> Action them and test them.</p>
<p>This is a great way to generate new idea&#8217;s for your business. Of course some of your idea&#8217;s may not be practical, however it&#8217;s a great strategy to keep the idea&#8217;s and your businesses innovation flowing.</p>

<p><strong> </strong><strong>Avoid this website sin&#8230;</strong></p>
<p><strong> </strong>I&#8217;m not sure which copywriter said it but I love this quote. &#8220;If people can&#8217;t read your message, they&#8217;ll give you the flick and you&#8217;ve done your dough!&#8221; Fair enough&#8230;. <strong>After all good design and copy should compliment each other not compete.</strong></p>
<p><strong>My point? Before designing, tweaking or reinventing your website give some thought to the person you want to read it. </strong></p>
<p>What do I mean by that?</p>
<p>Well stay away from large sections of reverse copy (white or coloured copy text on coloured backgrounds), lot&#8217;s of colours and script fonts.</p>
<p>They&#8217;re hard to read especially on a computer screen. Oh sure it may look awesome to you but if people can&#8217;t read your message you&#8217;ve lost them with a click of a mouse.</p>
<p>Another thing&#8230; keep in mind websites are being viewed on mobile phones and other devices which are smaller too so it is even harder to read.  For a website that people can read and that produces results for your business keep to the principles that work. KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid).</p>

<p>• <strong>Number 1 –</strong> Brand your e-newsletter consistently. You’d be surprised how many businesses don’t and as for the reasons well that’s none of my business that is unless you ask for my advice or a customer of mine.</p>
<p>My point; make sure your brand your e-newsletter and all your marketing with the same consistent branding.</p>
<p>• <strong>Number 2-</strong> Don’t send your e-newsletter through the holidays. People are away and your e-zine or e-newsletter will get lost in the sea of emails that person is receiving while they are away</p>
<p>• <strong>Number 3</strong> – Always test and measure your e-newsletter results. What are you looking for well? Well most email marketing programs have tracking and reporting functions built in so after you’ve sent your e-newsletter look at the open rates, the bounced rates and the forward clicks.</p>

<p><strong>• Number 1 –</strong> Subject lines if you want your email newsletter or email to get opened, attract people attention and make them want to open it with a great subject line.</p>
<p>I like to personalise email subject lines with the person’s name. Why?</p>
<p>Because it gets their attention from the generic sea of buy me emails they get each day. In split tests I’ve done I always get a higher open rate when I personalise the subject line.</p>
<p>Also make sure your Subject line represents the email content otherwise people are going to feel cheated and you’ll hurt future open rates.</p>
<p><strong>• Number 2-</strong> Avoid using all UPPER CASE text in your subject line or email body copy. It comes off like you are shouting at people and no-one LIKES TO BE SHOUTED AT DO THEY? That upper case rule applies to all your copy online or offline!</p>
<p><strong>• Number 3</strong> &#8211; Educate, consult and advise instead of sell sell, sell! Your E-newsletter should contain information that is of use and helps our audience. Whether it is in print or electronic your newsletter should about 80% informational and 20% about your business. So don’t sell, sell sell because it’s a surefire way to turn people away.</p>

<p><strong><br />
While writing website copy and print copy are different, you can use the general guildelines below to improve your returns and marketing messages on both.</strong></p>
<p><strong>1. </strong>Have a headline that attracts your target audiences attention. Use a customer benefit solution headline, us the word &#8216;YOU&#8217; in headline or even include your offer in the headline. &#8220;Get to the meat early.&#8221;</p>
<p><strong>2.</strong> Make sure you read your copy out loud to someone so you can hear where sentences should end and begin and if the copy you wrote makes sense.</p>
<p><strong>3</strong>. Use  testimonials.</p>
<p><strong>4.</strong> Include your guarantee. The longer your guarantee the better off you&#8217;ll be and testimonials build credibility with new prospects.</p>
<p><strong>5.</strong> Break up large paragraphs of copy with subheaders. People are scan readers.</p>
<p><strong>6</strong>. Use images, people think in pictures.</p>
<p><strong>7.</strong> Use a PS. Use your offer as a close in your PS, to drive home your guarantee, add any free bonus you have in your offer or as a call to action.</p>
<p><strong>8.</strong> Break up sentences and paragraphs. Don&#8217;t have paragraphs of copy that are all 4 lines in length.</p>
<p><strong>9</strong>. Use a case study in your print marketing, company profiles, website or blogs.</p>
<p><strong>10</strong>. Write in terms of benefits using the language and tone your target audience use.</p>
<p><strong>11.</strong> Have a call to action. Tell people what desired action you&#8217;d like them to take.</p>
